The establishment of the Foundation for the Environmental Sciences has received legal approval by the Greek government. Its constitution and bylaws Presidential Decree Nr 1, appeared in the Government Gazette on 26th April 1993 (Nr 283/ Issue B).

The Foundation is a nonprofit and non Governmental public welfare institution and is under the superintendence and control of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works.

The objectives of the Foundation are the development of the relative, to the Meteorology - Climatology - Physics of the Atmosphere and the Environment in general, sciences as well as the study of the man’s interaction with the environment and the cultural heritage of Greece.
