Climate Change and Sustainable Development. Impacts on Health, Migration, Poverty and Eco-justice in view of COP21 2015 in Paris
In the frame of the Master Science Program of Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens "Environment and Health. Capacity Building for Decision Making" and in collaboration with Mariolopoulos - Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences a Workshop was organized in 24 November 2015, 17:00 - 21:00, at the Auditorium Alkis Argyriadis, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, entitled "Climate Change and Sustainable Development. Impacts on Health, Migration, Poverty and Eco-justice in view of COP21 2015 in Paris". The Workshop explored and discussed the social impact of climate change on health, but also on immigration, poverty and ecological justice, focusing on promoting sustainable development.
The conference opened with a speech on the current challenges of Climate Change, by the Professor of the National Technical University of Athens, Dr. Alexander Papayannis, while subsequently the step was given to the guest Professor of the Flemish Institute for Technological Research, Dr. Luc Hens, who presented policy priorities on Climate Change. The speech of Professor of the Medical School of Athens, Secretary of the board of directors of the Mariolopoulos - Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences and Scientific Director of MSc Dr. P. Nicolopoulou - Stamati focused on the health and social consequences. A Roundtable discussion was also organized and coordinated by the Professor P. Nicolopoulou - Stamati, and was attended by the Member of the Parliament Mr. Hara Kafantari, the Ambassador a.h. Mr. Eleftherios Angelopoulos, and the Scientific Secretary of Climate Change Impacts Study Committee of the Bank of Greece, Architect Mrs. Theodora Antonakaki. The Roundtable focused on the global perspective of the social impact of Climate Change in view of the future. Final comments were by the journalist Mr. Konstantinos Angelopoulos.
