  • The Secretary of the Foundation, Mrs. P. Nicolopoulou Stamati participated and represented the Foundation at the 13th Educational Conference entitled "Possible effects of the environment on the child: Progress, emerging risks and prevention", on Saturday 26/11/2016, 13:30 - 19:10, at the Institute of Neurology & Genetics of Cyprus, where she gave the main lecture entitled "Possible effects of cosmetic substances to the fetus, the child and the mother. Precautions" based on her publication "Nicolopoulou-Stamati, P ., Hens, L., & Sasco, AJ (2015). Cosmetics as endocrine disruptors: they are a health risk?. Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, 16 (4), 373-383 ".

  • The President of the Foundation, Prof. C. Zerefos participated at the GEO High Level Group on Earth Observations metting held in St Petersberg on 7 November 2016. Prof. Zerefos presented a proposal at the IUGG side event held on 8 November 2016 and assigned his deputy Dr. V. Gerasopoulos for the XIII General Assembly meeting.

  • During the period of October-November 2016 the Foundation coorganised the 29th mission of the "Hellenic Institute of Ancient and Medieval Alexandrian Studies" aiming to the study of the Alexandrian littoral and sea level changes off the Eastern Harbor. The Foundation also participated in "The Alexandria International Conference on Maritime and Underwater Archaeology, Alexandria 31October to 2 November" and Dr Repapis highlighted the research findings of the past 3 years in collaboration with the Hellenic Institute for ancient and medieval Alexandria.

  • The International Conference MedCLIVAR 2016 was held on 26-29 September 2016 in Athens. The Conference was co-organised by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Mariolopoulos - Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences, the National Observatory of Athens and the Hellenic Center for the Marine Research.   • The award Ceremony for 2016 was held on 26 September 2016 at the University of Athens. At the award Ceremony Dr Geir Braathen, Senior Scientific Officer of Atmospheric Environment Research Division (AER) Research Department (RES), WMO, representing the Secretary General of WMO Petteri Taalas made a brief introduction to the WMO Professor Mariolopoulos Trust Fund Award and presented the first Award. The second was presented by the President of the Foundation Prof. Christos Zerefos. More.

  • The 13th International Conference on Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Physics (COMECAP 2016) was co-organised by the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Meteorological Society and the Mariolopoulos - Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences. The Conference was held at Thessaloniki in 19-21 September 2016 and was hosted at the Aristotle Research Dissemination Center. More.

  • The Secretary of the Foundation, Mrs. P. Nicolopoulou Stamati participated and represented the Foundation at at the International Conference "Timeless Greece", in Ancient Olympia, 28 to 31 August, meeting under the auspices of the the President of the Republic P. Pavlopoulos, in which he attended. Mrs. P. Nicolopoulou Stamati chaired the last deduced session. She also published in Kathimerini the attached article.

  • A workshop entitled "The Kanaginis Family and its contribution to the society and civilization" took place the 13th of July 2016 at the Museum of Marble Crafts in Pyrgos on the island of Tinos. It was coorganised by the MK Foundation, the Museum of Marble Crafts and the Municipality of Tinos. Scientists and researchers have spoken on the historic passage of the Kanaginis family and its contribution and donations to the society. More.

  • The inaugural General Assembly of the EU "Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service" (CAMS) took place in Athens, 14-16 June 2016. The International meeting was attended by 200 scholars and representatives from the society and business sector and it was coorganised by ECMWF, the Research Center for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology, Academy of Athens, the Mariolopoulos - Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences and the Hellenic Meteorological Service.   • On May 20th, 2016, the Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Hippocratic Flame (La flamme d'Hippocrate) and Hippocratic Foundation of Kos coorganized a Workshop on "Environment and Health".

    This workshop aimed at raising awareness through an interdisciplinary look at the serious issue of the environmental impact on health.

    Humans, who are an integral part of the environment, are exposed to the air they breathe, to the water they drink which is necessary for their homeostasis, and also to the aggregate of their everyday activities at their house, their workplace and at other public areas such as health and recovery infrastructures. Furthermore, human health is exposed to Climate Change, and also to chemical substances through their diet, such as in the case of pesticides, and to toxic substances in the built environment. All these external stimuli are particularly dangerous during certain periods of life such as foetal period, childhood and adolescence. More.

  • The Foundation in collaboration with the Energy Committee of the Academy of Athens, has cosponsored the publication of the Proceedings of the Conference "Energy and Development Planning in Greece". The conference took place on 30 October 2015 at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens.

  • On the 5th of January 2016 the Foundation has installed a modern Meteorological station at a height of 1365 meters above sea level at Magouliana Peloponnese, the birth place of late Professor Mariolopoulos, founder of the MKF. At these high elevations there are only a few operational stations in Southeastern Europe.

  • On January 30th, the ceremony for the cutting of New Year's cake took place at the Foundation offices. Present at the ceremony were the President of the MKF Prof. C. Zerefos, the Vice President C. Liatsos, the Secretary of the board of directors P. Nicolopoulou - Stamati, the Treasurer G. Mariolpoulos and the members of the board of Directors C. Repapis, D. Assimakopoulos, A. Karamamos, N. Christopoulos and V. Tritakis. At the ceremony where also present the Director of the MKF E. Xirotyri, the wives of the board of Directors Mrs K. Assimakopoulou, L. Tritaki, Christopoulou and Mrs A. Antoniou Secretary.
