Polyxeni Nicolopoulou-Stamati is a Pathologist – Cytologist. Emeritus Professor of the Medical School National and Kapodistrian  University of Athens.

She introduced Environmental Pathology in the medical School of the  National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and continues teaching Environmental Pathology and Environmental Health at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

She organized, implemented and directed (2004-2014) the two-year Master’s Degree Programme of the Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, titled:  MSc Environment and Health: Capacity Building for Decision Making

She is engaged in the Research and Medical Diagnosis of the effect of the Environment on Health at tissue, cell and DNA level and as a visiting professor, she has taught in many Post Graduate Master’s Degree Programs at European Universities, including 10 years at the VRIE UNIVERSITE in Brussels (1997-2007) and at INSERM in Paris (1992-1993).

She is experienced in organizing and implementing Seminars, Intensive Courses and Conferences, in planning and creating Programs of Medical Studies, in the Coordination of European Programs and she is also a Researcher at the “Center for Environmental Health Effects” of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens.

She is listed as Expert at the European Commission for Environmental Health.

She has served as  a member of the Greek  Public Health Council and  Special Scientific Advisor at the Belgian High Council for Public Health and as

  • Consultant in the public and private sector in Environmental Health isuues of Corporate Environmental Responsibility.
  • Member of the interdisciplinary Climate Change Impact Study Committee of the Bank of Greece / ΕΜΕΚΑ.
  • Board member of Health Care Without Harm –Europe.
  • Chair of the board of the European Scientific Organization ENSSER /European Network for Social and Environmental Responsibility
  • Member of IPPNW/ International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War since 1983, all members of which were awarded the Peace Nobel Prize in 1985.
  • Member of the Club of Rome
  • Member of the Collegium Ramazzini
